This page was updated on 7/02/2007. Client build upgrade 5.0.6613.0 has rolled out. Here is a quick tutorial on the basics of using a mouse on TNB AKA RCA RM-4100 AKA the MSN TV 2 Internet & media player.
1) The first thing you need to do is purchase one. The mouse should be a USB port plug and play mouse. Make sure no software is required to be downloaded to make the mouse function. Make sure the mouse is windows compactable. An example of a compactable mouse is the Radio Shack cat no 26-592 mini optical scroll mouse. A good compatable wireless mouse is the Logitech LX-5. ( note: some mice have a CD ROM with software for windows 95. This is OK just be sure windows XP does not require a software download. )
2) Plug the mouse into one of the USB ports in the rear of the MSN
Internet & Media player. ( Note: For your protection please unplug the player before making any connections !!! )
3) Plug the player back in and log on. Move the mouse around until you see the pointer come on the screen.
4) To open a link place the pointer over the link and left click.
5) To bring up the menu right click the mouse.
6) To copy text from a webpage place the pointer just to the left of the first letter of the text you wish to copy and double left click. This will highlight the first word. Continue holding the left click and move the mouse and Watch for the text to highlight. This may take a couple of tries. While still holding the left click down move the mouse to highlight more of the text. Continue to move the mouse and keep holding the left click button until all the text you want is highlighted. If you need to start over make sure the pointer is not on the highlighted text and just click it a few times and the highlight will disappear. This may take a little bit of practice at first.
When your finished highlighting use CTRL and the letter C on your KB at the same time to copy it. Then you can paste it to a text area such as your email write page. ( use CTRL and V to paste it down. )
7) UPDATE 8/02/2005: To scroll up an down a webpage speed scroll is now enabled. Place the pointer anywhere on your screen and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to speed scroll the webpage.
8) At this tme (8/02/2005) the scroll wheel function on the mouse is enabled. Or you can Use the arrow keys on your keyboard or remote or the above method to scroll.
9) When you are finished using the mouse you can just move the pointer off your screen and it will stay put. When your ready to use the mouse again just bring the pointer back on screen by moving the mouse.
10) This was meant as a quick "mouse basics" tutorial for TNB . As you surf around the web you will find the mouse will work menus at many sites. Many websites also have "mouseover" special effects you will find that work with the mouse. Enjoy your new discoveries with your new mouse.

UPDATE 8/02/2005:
Here is another way to highlight text with the mouse without dragging.
Place the pointer or cursor just to the left of the text you want to highlight. When its in place left click the mouse. Now move the pointer to the right of the end of the text you want to highlight and just leave it there. Now grab your KB and press and hold the shift key. While holding the shift key down left click the mouse. The text you selected will be highlighted.
If you did not highlight enough text at the end or you have highlighted too much just move the pointer to where you want it to end and press shift and left click again and the highlight will adjust itself.
To change the text size on most webpages or an email you can hold down the CTRL button on your KB and spin the scroll wheel on the mouse at the same time. The text size will change to the same 5 choices available when you use the text size keys on your KB. It works the same way as the text size keys.
To bring up secret menus press the ALT key on your KB and left click the mouse at the same time. Features such as refresh the page and print and some other functions such as copy cut and paste functions can be found on these secret menus depending on if you are on a webpage or in a text area.
With the new 5.0.6613.0 update you can now scroll sideways with the mouse. To do this press resize page on you KB. Left click the left or right arrows on your screen. You can also left click the up and down arrows on your screen as well.
