This page has been updated 8/02/2005.
Client Update 4.3.6214.0 is now rolling out.
CCP now fully works.
This Copy,Cut and Paste (CCP) tutorial is for the MSN TV 2 internet access device . (RCA RM-4100). Although the main focus of this tutorial is for the MSN TV 2 most of this will also work on a PC as well. The following became effective with the update release on 8/02/2005.
The first thing i want to talk about is using the KB alone to CCP.
Let's start with basic KB commands:
Ctrl + A at same time: Is used to highlight all text on a webpage or email on MSN TV 2 or PC.
Ctrl + C at same time: Used to copy highlighted text to MSN TV 2 memory. (Note: Memory space has been increased with this upgrade.)
Ctrl + V at the same time: Used to paste text stored in memory onto a text area such as a write an email page or screen.
Ctrl + X at the same time: Used to move text from one text area to another or to delete highlighted text from a text area such as an email you are writing. Like Ctrl + C the deleted text is stored in memory and can be pasted someplace else using Ctrl + V.
Shift + Left and Right Arrow Keys: Used to highlight text you wish to CCP from an email or a webpage . More on this later . On a PC the up and down arrows also can be used however for MSN TV 2 only the left and right arrow keys are used at this time.
Menu: Will be used to access the find a word function. This is for highlighting a word on a webpage . Once highlighted you will use the Shift and Left and Right arrow keys to highlight what you need to CCP. (Note: They may be memory limits on how much you can CCP at this time. UPDATE: 8/02/2005 memory was increased with the 4.3.6214.0 upgrade)
UPDATE 8/02/2005:
Ok now that we have have covered the basics let's do some practice. First lesson we will highlight some text in a text area. On this text area the cursor is flashing already for you. Sometimes however you may encounter a text area where the cursor is not flashing. In this case simply press return or enter on your KB to start the cursor flashing. In the text area below use your shift key and use the left and right arrows to highlight the text. The shift key is to held down while using the left and right arrow keys. UPDATE: Effective with the 4.3.6214.0 upgrade rolling 8/02/2005 you can now use CTRL + A at the same time to highlight the text. Make sure he cursor is in the text box first.
Ok now that we have got the hang on highlighting text lets copy some text and paste it into another text area. Like in our previous lesson we will use the shift and arrow keys to highlight our text. UPDATE: Effective with the 4.3.6214.0 upgrade rolling 8/02/2005 you can now use CTRL + A at the same time to highlight the text. Make sure he cursor is in the text box first. Then we will use Ctrl + C at the same time to copy text to memory. Then we will place the cursor in the second text area and use Ctrl + V to paste the text into the text area .
Ok this lesson will be like the previous lesson where we copied text from one text area to another only this time we will delete the text from the first text area. This lesson will be done in two steps. First lets practice deleted the text. To delete the text highlight the text and use Ctrl + X. At this point the text is removed from the first text area. Now place the cursor in the second text area and use Ctrl + V to move the text and paste it into the second text area. (Note: If you just want to erase text from a text area and do not need to move it elsewhere you can highlight the text and press delete on your KB. However the text will NOT be stored in memory and moved elsewhere using this method)
Ok now we have learned how to move text from one text area to another. Now we need to focus on copying text from a webpage that is not in a text area. UPDATE: Effective with the 4.3.6214.0 upgrade rolling 8/02/2005 you can now use CTRL + A at the same time to highlight ALL the text on a page. If you want to find a sentence or a paragraph on a webpage then use the following method. To do this we will use our menu function and choose the find function. Type the word in you are looking for. the word you will be typing into the find box is Norbert for this lesson. Next click continue. Then click find next. Then click done to put the find menu down. The word will be highlighted on the webpage. Then you will use the shift and left and right arrow keys to highlight what you need to copy.
After the text is highlighted use Ctrl + C to copy to memory and Ctrl + V to paste it into the text area below.
Norbert wants you to copy this text to the below text area
Ok now that we covered all the KB Copy,Cut and paste basics for those that have a mouse you can also use the mouse to highlight text. You simply place the pointer to the left of the text you want to copy to memory and hold down the left click to "drag" the highlight area down the page . For more on mouse use please read my mouse tutorial located in the index below.
With the 4.3.6214.0 upgrade you can now use CTRL + A on your KB at the same time if you want to CCP a whole received email. The entire email will be highlighted. Then use CTRL + C to copy to memory. If you only want to highlight a portion of the email use this following method instead:
With the 4.3.6214.0 upgrade you can now use the find a word method by pressing MENU on your KB for received email. Type in the first word you want to highlight and follow instructions on the find a word pop up. After you have the word you need highlighted you may use the SHIFT + ARROW keys to highlight what you need. Once highlighted use CTRL + C to copy to memory OR you can still do it the old way as follows.
Important Note: Added 4/14/05. MSN TV 2 users at this time if you are trying to CCP from a received email you must first press Reply and scroll down to CCP content. You can then back out of the email without sending it.
