TNB A.D. SIG TUTE

Welcome;
This page was last updated 5/24/2008 at 2:30 PM EDT.
This is a tute to help you learn how to use a compatible signature on your alt discuss posts that both TOB (Web TV AKA MSN TV) and TNB (MSN TV 2)users can both see. This tute assumes you are using TNB (AKA MSN TV 2).

Update:
I have a new pre made sig site optimized for MSN TV 2 users. Please read this tute first as it contains special info on how to use signatures in A.D. posts. For premade sigs click here. Please wear a hard hat as site is under construction and new sigs may be added at any time.

The first thing i will discuss is how to use sigs in your posts on TNB. Unlike TOB, at this time there is NO signature box for alt discuss postings. You will need to copy cut and paste (CCP) you sig into each post. I will include tips to make this as easy as possible.

The TNB supports the table tag in alt discuss NG (newsgroup) postings. It does not support the body tag. If a body tag is used we see red X's. We will use the table tag to get our desired text colors and background colors in the body of our posts. We can also add images to our sigs. TNB does support the bgsound tag however it does not support .mid files. (Update: Norbert fell behind on updating pages. The MSN TV 2 now supports .mid files) See this page for supported audio file types . Below you will find CCP code templates ready to be used. You will need to change the font color and background color to those of your choice. I have included default colors for background and font (text) to start you out. Also because there is no signature box you will be typing the contents of your post where it says TYPE YOUR POST HERE after you paste the template in the body of the post on the post screen.
Note: Make sure the cursor is in the upper left corner of the post screen before you paste your sig.

This sample is a template with text and background color.

This sample includes text color background color and a sample image added.

This sample includes text color and a background image.

This sample includes text color and a background image and a regular image.

This sample is for you to study. Look at it carefully . I am showing you where to add your text color and background color and URLs. Things you add are in CAPS. Erase what i have in CAPS and insert your choices.

Please take time to study the above samples and practice changing the colors, text size and URLs. If you don't know the exact height and width of an image you can erase those tags but loading will take longer while the browser resizes the image to fit the alotted space. You can also choose a height and width you would like the browser to resize the image to even if its not the exact width and height of the image file however the image may look distorted.
Below are some helpful tips:

1) Try to keep file sizes small. Keep in mind there are people using dial up on both boxes.

2) Save signatures in your email draft folder. They will be there until you delete them. You can label them sig 1 sig 2 ....or however you want. Simply paste or compose sig on email write address to yourself and click on save as draft.

3) Save the email drafts folder page to a regular favorite and place in a favorites folder of your choice. You can even assign it a keyboard shortcut if you wish for easy access and changing your sigs.

4) Added 9/4/07: These signature codes will work in MSN TV 2 email signature box. Just paste them in and erase "TYPE YOUR CONTENT HERE". Your signature will appear BELOW the body of your email.

5) Added 9/4/07: These signature codes are compactible (will display fine) with some PC email clients and MSN groups.

I hope this tute was helpful. I was intended to help you study and learn the basic HTML code template for use in the alt.discuss clubs. Please note these codes can be used outside the firewalled Web TV alt discuss in USENET. I do NOT recommend using a sig to post in USENET. There are PC users in USENET who prefer plain text postings.

Update:
Now that you have studied the table method there is also an alternate method devised by Joe Keith that uses div tags. Click Here to visit his tutorial. Before you leave remember to save this page for future reference.
