To my MSN TV 2 and Windows 7 file sharing tutorial. This tute was prepared and completed at 10:18 AM EDT 01/03/10. In this tute we will learn how to share files stored on a computer with windows 7 including music , pictures, and videos as long as the MSN TV 2 media player supports the file types. This tute assumes you have already set up your home network and have a router in place . This tute is written for the windows 7 operating system however some may apply to Vista and XP.

First we need to prepare things on the computer. Start the computer. From the desktop choose windows start and choose control panel. Click Network and Internet and make sure this is set up and shown as a home network not a public network. Look at view your active networks. It should show your network name and below it show home network. If not click to change to home network on next screen if needed. Close this window and return to the desktop.

On the computer log in the user you want to share files with. From the desktop click windows start (lower left) or windows key on your KB. Open your personal folder at the top right hand side of this menu. Select your my pictures folder. Right click it. Choose share with from that menu. Next choose specific people. A screen will come up that says Choose people to share with. Select everyone from the drop menu on top of tha screen and click add. You only need to choose read for permission level. Click the share button at the right bottom corner of the screen. You will get a screen that says your folder is shared. Repeat this procedure for your my music and your my video folders. Close all windows and return to the desktop.

At this time i need you to be sure your MSN TV 2 is on . If not please turn on your MSN TV 2 and log in (any user is fine). Now please return to your computer.

Click the Windows start menu. Select Computer on the right hand side. On the bottom of the left hand column select network. Right click on MSN TV 2 Internet and Media Player. Choose allow streaming to this device from menu. Close window and return to desktop.

Now head over to the MSN TV 2 and go to your broadband start page. On the scroll menu at the bottom select home network. On the screen that comes up if you don't see your computer select find. The MSN TV 2 should find and show all computers on your network. Add the ones you want. Once done click on the computer you want to access. Enter the user name and password to the user on the COMPUTER that has the folders you set up for sharing. You may get a pop up saying no shares were found. Click OK . Now look down on the list on the home network settings page. You should see your computer shown as a media server below. Click on this. A pop up will give you a choice of music , photos, videos, or cancel. choose a file type such as photos. The my pictures folder from the computer should load on your MSN TV 2 player and you should see your pictures. You will do the same to access your my music folder and your videos folder on the computer using the MSN TV 2 player. you will have plenty of choices on how to view pictures, play music shown on the screens just select the choices as you want. Enjoy file sharing on your MSN TV 2 player using your new windows 7 computer.

A few notes:
- I have windows 7 home premium edition.
- The computer user i shared folders with had admin privilages.
- If the MSN TV 2 acts flaky be sure reset the player by clearing the memory via alt + power or unplug for a minute.
